State of Fear - Michael Crichton
Crichton was one of my favorite authors growing up, and Jurassic Park was the first book I ever read twice. State of Fear is another candidate for a re-read. Crichton's thriller follows a set of characters who expose the evils of extremist environmentalists. It expertly questions the veracity of environmentalist claims of global warming, species extinction, and climate change. The well-documented work plainly shows how little we know about our effects on the planet, and recommends that admitting that would be mroe useful than quaking in our boots every time an environmentalist talks about the glaciers retreating.
This book ends abruptly and could use about another hundred pages. Plus, the plot is extremely far-fetched, but raises some of the most provocative and not far-fetched questions about our environment that I have heard.
