Middlesex - Eugene Stephanides
This book is famous for its opening lines which describe how the main character was born twice...once as a girl and then as a boy, but for me, the book was less a transgender coming-of-age story as it was a study of cycles. The book follows the lives 3 generations of a family. Incestuous grandparent immigrants from Greece, hard-working parents in Detroit, and a girl and her brother growing up in this environment. It interestingly intertwines all the tales, making some obvious connections between the charaters through their various life experiences.
While I enjoyed the book, I feel that it was cut off about 100 pages before the ending. Good books often feel this way, but this one especially felt like it needed about 100 more pages to make it complete.
