Freakonomics - Dubner and Levitt

This controversial work did not seem so controversial to me, but it obviously has raised the ire of many people, judging from the many warnings in the book to people who might find certain material offensive.

The most troubling information in this work that explores several important issues through the eyes of truth-seeking economists, for some people must be the claim that the legalization of abortion in the US led to the precipitious drop in crime through the 90's. People who have a problem with abortion bristle at claims like these, but Freakonomics makes plenty of sense. It also does a good job catering to our society's short attention span by boiling down extremely complex issues to easily graspable sound-bytes.

Strongly recommended for anyone who wants to challenge "conventional knowledge," and think about hot topics in a rational way.
