Bars

Where do sappy singer songwriters with acoustic guitars, skinny hipsters and punky chicks hang out? Surely not in the Bronx. Wrong.

Our weekend started off with the find of the century: The Bruckner Bar and Grill. After about three years in the Bronx living near Yankee Stadium, we finally found a bar not associated with baseball or extremely shady drug dealer types. And it's only a 1/2 hour walk from our apartment!

According to the New York magazine review of it:

[Bruckner Bar & Grill] is the destination for artsy types. Actually, it’s pretty much the only eating and drinking destination for artsy types in the area.

Uh yeah...if we find anything else in the area we'll let you know.

Next up a night in Williamsburg, the overly hip section of Brooklyn my sister lives just outside of. Started off at Zabloski's -- a fairly standard-looking bar, with plenty of room, and a DJ for dancing. The night included karaoke at another bar where a friend was kicked out for expressing displeasure over having to hear "99 Red Balloons," and was finished with some happy times at Matchless (I like how its official name is Bar Matchless).

Brooklyn wins hands down over the Bronx, but we're hoping The Bruckner will tide us over till our lease runs out...
